Masters Candidate M.S Criminal Justice & Criminology |
I am an energetic, open-minded, and flexible individual with a drive for success. These qualities have helped me during my undergrad years as a mentee under Dr. Bill McCarthy, Dean of the Criminal Justice School at Rutgers University-Newark. With him, I got to explore my passions in crime analysis, criminal justice reform, prison rehabilitation, immigration, and policing through various research projects and a self-made Honors Thesis project that won best poster at the 2021 Stanford Research Conference. During my years at UCD, I became mostly self-taught in R programming and ARCGIS, skills that I use to explore spatial analysis research in crime and policing in communities. While completing my Masters in Criminal Justice & Criminology at San Diego State University, I am privileged to be mentored by Dr. Burrel Vann Jr., who is overseeing my thesis project as well as supervising me as I work in his Social Policy and Justice lab. I am also working under Dr. Kimberly Kras on her 3-year Kitchens for Good Evaluation Project where I am expanding my skills as a researcher by using qualitative methods such as interviews and narrative research writing. After graduation from my M.S program, I aim to enter a PhD program in Criminology to continue my research on policing in immigrant communities. Later, I'll be applying as a government crime analyst. I plan on using my knowledge and passions to fight for vulnerable, under resourced, minority, over-policed communities like my hometown of San Diego. In my non-academic life, I enjoy reading fantasy novels, playing RPG video games, watching anime and k-dramas, listening to The Adventure Zone and Welcome to NightVale podcasts, and singing karaoke. |
